They agreed that Stig Engström´s entrepreneurial actions had garnered him the right to the award that has also gone to Hasse Wallman, owner and CEO of the famous Wallmans Salonger dinner theatres.
The jury´s motivation was:
“For 18 years, Stig Engström has successfully built up a world leading industrial manufacturing company for excavation equipment. Based in Strömsund, he has contributed greatly to the growth of his home community and the creation of many new jobs in a rural area of Sweden."
In addition to the award itself, Hans-Jacob Bonnier handed over SEK 50,000 in prize money during a lunch ceremony in the famous Bonnier villa, Nedre Manilla, in the upscale Djurgården district of Stockholm. This is where Stig Engström was inducted into an exclusive society consisting of some 20 previous Entrepreneurs of the Year, who gather annually to exchange experiences with each other.“
The award is a great honour for me," says Stig Engström, who is pleased that his efforts have been noticed, creating good PR for his company and the municipality of Strömsund as well.
As he presented the award, Hans-Jacob Bonnier talked about Engström´s great dedication to his community, which is one of the reasons that Dagens Industri and Bonniers selected him.
